Happy conception day to me… and 40 years of IVF
Today marks 40 years since my conception on 10 November 1977!
Following many years of incredible work by Prof Robert Edwards and Dr Patrick Steptoe, they pioneered a technique that would allow my parents to have me and to go on to give millions of other couples the chance to have children.
Solving a mystery
A few weeks ago I spent an hour or so in the company of Tokyo-based journalist Kazumoto Ohno, who is writing about the early days of IVF and had some questions for me.

I don’t know about you but I have met lots of people over the years in different circumstances.
For example, I met my husband when he was guarding a door at a nightclub and I was waiting to get in!
But the meeting I had with Elizabeth Carr, the first IVF baby to be born in the US, has to rank as one of the most unusual and nerve-wracking of my life.
